LA Times App Reviews

Very Slow

I appreciate the reintroduction of the offline reading download feature. Unfortunately because the LA Times app is so slow to refresh and update I usually opt for the AP or PBS News Hour app.

Sound bite tech at its finest

Great to finally read the news and have it to be interesting

Great News

The app works smoothly. Nice to have one that covers everything for us Angelenos. Would be nice to have it ad free.

Really good but it would be far better to have it ad free

Ads in a paid app!

Update: Now - or maybe for awhile; I rarely use it anymore - the app launches your browser whether you tap an ad or not, and I most definitely did not. Great way to draw in subscribers. Not! Im done with LAT. Not cool. I detest advertising and would pay a fee rather than use an ad-supported free version. So this was an unwelcome surprise. Id even pay a reasonable subscription rate rather than have to look at ads. Bad move, LAT.

Wont let me read

After reading a certain amount of stories, it wont let me read anymore unless I pay to get an upgrade. The same news are free online so I just deleted the app. CNN is way better

Too slow on ipod touch

Once was a joy to read, but now each and every single article takes 3 to 4 minutes to appear. NPR news appears instantly. The New York Times appears instantly. But the LA Times just shows a spinning wheel. It seems as if the articles will not appear until after the ads load.

Video ads very distracting

I can live with, and understand the need for, advertising to help defray costs and increase revenue in an endangered medium. Static ads are--as in a traditional newspaper--OK by me. But, the new crop of in-place, always-on, repeating video ads almost makes it impossible to read articles. If this practice is continued, Im gone as both an online and home delivery subscriber.

Ok

2 things 1. ads do not go away in paid version. Thats total BS. 2. Scrolling can be a little glitchy making it very easy to accidentally open up an add So great for news not great for customer experience.

Frustrating!!!!!

At the worst, you would expect this app to mirror the physical paper. The lazy way to do it would be to make a pdf of the physical paper (no changes, ads and all) and show that. Using this as a benchmark, the app is actually harder to use than that. The worst offense is when youre scrolling down, looking at the leaders for all the stories. When the ad at the top changes, the app returns you to the top of the webpage where the app is located. However, since the app refreshes or changes every couple of seconds, it is impossible to scroll to more than a few leaders.

Well I subscribe to the LA Times.....

And so I have to use this app. The newspaper is fine. The app seems to be getting a little more intuitive over the years. However there definitely remains room for sophistication. The NYTimes app remains better by quite a bit.

Paid Subscription

Deleting LA Times - Every article requires survey and ad.

No Can Do

Why cant we zoom-in on pics? Please fix this

Almost

As an ex-pat from the LA area, I wanted a way to get the LA Times. I tried having the paper mailed, the web site ... But this app is great. It is well organized, easy to save articles I want to reread, and a great feature is the ability to download the news and still read it when I am offline. The only negative is the navigation is a little clumsy. The New York Times has a better navigation.

Spotlight

Watched Spotlight, subscribed the next day.

Lindaperson

Great for travel. The headings are logical and better than the older version (e.g. Can go directly to book reviews)

Great Newspaper and App

So easy to use

Meh

Clunky app that crashes....terrible foreign call center customer service....pop up ads In paid version....and same lack luster content as print version.

Pop up advertisements

I used to love this app. Now theres annoying pop up advertisements that interrupt browsing headlines and interrupt reading. Considering that i pay a monthly fee to subscribe to LA Times to get access to the articles, this is unforgivable. I recommend finding another source for news.

Pop ads and return to App Store

I was so excited to subscribe to LA Times again only to get every article interrupted by the pop up of Apple App Store. This needs to get fixed ASAP. Its not worth my time or money.
