LA Times App Reviews

Bad update!

I am a loyal subscriber and a daily reader but the most recent update ruined the app! The old navigation and layout of the app was legendary! Please change it back!!!! And this is my first ever app store review so that says a lot!

Well done

App does exactly what it is supposed to do with no issues at all. Well done.

Subscription only

Strictly paid app. No free content at all. Subscription only.

New platform

Please reinstate the old platform or at least give us a choice, please?

Solid app

The app is solid.

Great content and mostly good app

I just added the LA Times to the New York Times and Bloomberg. I am greatly impressed by the journalism. It covers important topics in depth that the other two dont. Since I read all three on my iPhone, each has its own problems with this difficult format. My major problem with both Timeses is too many links in a small space. This results in a sometimes cluttered appearances of the LA Times. (In the case of the NYTimes, this too frequently results in hitting an unintended link when scrolling through a story, which is much worse.) My bottom line is that the LA Times app is good and well worth using.

No "Todays paper" section

There is no today section where you see the articles that went into todays paper, and each article might show up simultaneously in many different sections/interests. Impossible to feel like youve even scanned all the headlines much less read the important articles of the day. Also this latest update requires that I constantly have to open a menu to navigate to different themes of the day. Its an annoyance that slow down the process of trying to find worthwhile articles. If they at least told me what section I was in while in the menu it would help rather than hoping I hit all the areas. Horrible app. Please give me a daily news paper and let me get all my news in one area instead of having to hunt all over the place and hope that I see it.

Not quite what I expected....

I want to feel like I actually read "todays paper" from cover to back and I havent seen where thats possible yet. Instead theres a bunch of random headlines which is fine, but just not what I expected or wanted.

Worst then "Poor"

This is one of the worst newspaper websites in the United States. Terrible search function, very unstable. Needs a complete rewrite. Awful!

New version crashes

Updated again: as of November 2nd 2016 the app crashes every time I try and read a story. Update again. The new version works great. Thanks! UPDATE. The app loads the first five or six stories for each page. But if I scroll down to the the bottom of the list it tries to add more stories but crashes EVERY time. Ive deleted and reinstalled a dozen times and tried it on wifi and LTE connections. Doesnt matter. Still doesnt work right. Drag. I updated last night. Now the app crashes every time I launch it. Im still using iOS 7. Other then that its great.

Frustrated!

I am a long time reader and subscriber and am so frustrated!! I keep getting kicked out because supposedly I am not a subscriber and therefore have no right to recipes and am limited to a certain number of other articles. Right now the App is frozen on one article, cant get out of it, cant read other articles even when I wait 10 minutes or longer after closing the App. Get your act together! We need you to continue doing great investigative articles! Fix this App, please!!

Crashes

New version crashes every time I select an article to read. I discontinued my subscription.

Horrible App Betrays Great Content

"tronc," the bad joke of a corporate rebranding scheme that was the Tribune company, is only made all the more ridiculous by the fact that their digital tech is laughable. This app is riddled with glitches, constantly crashes, photos and videos rarely if ever properly display, the list goes on and on. If it werent the only source of quality local news in Los Angeles Id give it zero stars. But this is a review of the app, not the company or the content or the legacy of the times, which unfortunately has been disgraced by "tronc"

I will not go back to the Print Edition

The LA Times app has been nothing but a disaster since they started to change to read more than 10 stories in their entirety. I am a subscriber and I still get notices that I have reached my 10 articles limit. The other day it would only load stories from 5 days ago. If I wanted yesterdays news I would have kept reading the Printed Edition!!!! Please, hire some qualified tech people to fix the bugs and provide us with a functioning app. Because, I WILL NOT GO BACK TO THE PRINTED EDITION!!!

Ron

You always have to second guess their reporting. They have a strong liberal bias. Their business commentary reporting is mostly democrat talking points. I find little worth with their reporting. I only use it to follow the lakers.

Love the simplicity and convenience of this app

This app is great. I enjoy reading all the headlines then expanding to read the articles that interest me. The news is up to date and accurate. I love the three levels of subscription as well

Memory Hog!

I really like this app. Really, I do! But, there is one glaring problem with it. It saves every single article an photo it downloads. I was getting constant storage alerts on my phone. Finally discovered that this app was taking up over two gigabytes of space! Over 2 GB!

Ads on top of stories and constantly crashing

I so want this app to work. Im a paid subscriber and have an iPhone 6 Plus. I would think my phone would handle the ever changing ad scripts and graphic content, but my daily experience trying to read the stories ends up with frustration and eventual giving up on the days news. Ads frequently are laid on top of stories, and since they started inserting streaming ad video, the app crashes several times in a sitting. Its to the point now where I cant read an entire story without it crashing two or three times. I clear my cookies, unloaded and reloaded the app, turned off all other apps, reduced the font size, and have the latest version of iOS. Nothing is working. I have contacted tech support well over a dozen times, and they respond quickly (impressive) to my app issues. However, the quality of experience using this app has not improved since I started using it last summer. I really want this app to work. I am critical here because I want the Times to get the thing to run properly. A start would be not to launch streaming ads till theyve worked out the bugs. I continue to hold out hope that this app will finally work properly.

Glitches constantly

Im a paying subscriber, and cannot use this app at all. It glitches constantly as I attempt to read the articles – bouncing back to the top of the menu and exiting any article Im reading. This is a constant occurrence. Completely useless

Paid App Works Great

The subscription app works great. If you are a free-news moocher, quit whinnying about the adds. Pay for the subscription without adds. Reporters need to get paid for their work, too.
